Maldives Digital Service (MDS) was established on 15 January 2026 as the national agency responsible for driving digital governance, technology development, and ICT infrastructure across the Maldives. The agency spearheads the nation's digital transformation efforts, fostering innovation and enabling the delivery of modern, citizen-centric public services.
MDS was formed following the dissolution of the National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT), which was originally established on 25 March 2003. Building upon the foundational work of its predecessor, MDS continues and expands this mandate to cultivate a secure, innovative, and digitally connected Maldives.
