23 Years of Service in the IT Sector Since the Establishment of the National Centre for Information Technology

In the early 2000s, a master plan for science and technology was introduced which led to the establishment of the National Centre for Information Technology. In 2001, the National ICT Policy and the Science and Technology Master Plan were officially introduced. In 2002, a proposal was submitted to restructure the National Computer Centre to establish the NCIT. The announcement of the establishment of the National Centre for Information Technology on 25 March 2003 by the President's Office (Statement No: 26/2003) was the beginning of a revolutionary change in the IT sector. The National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT), which was established on March 25, 2003, completed 23 years on March 25, 2026. This Remarkable Year, the name of the National Centre for Information Technology was changed to Maldives Digital Service by the President's Office Statement (Reference No 2026/04) on 15 January 2026
